A water truck typically consists of a cab and chassis that may be styled like a pickup truck, semi-truck, or articulated truck, and incorporates a tank body complete with pumps, hoses, and sprayers. Water trucks are also important for road construction projects for wetting down dry ground and helping create a smoother surface for asphalt paving.

Some water trucks may secondarily be used for fire prevention and firefighting. Although models in this category aren’t expressly designed for these purposes, they come in handy for saturating nearby terrain that poses a fire hazard or for containing or extinguishing a sudden, unexpected fire until a proper fire truck arrives. The latter is particularly important for construction and mining operations located in remote areas.
