    About Wirtgen

Wirtgen is a Germany-based manufacturer of cold milling, soil stabilization, cold and hot recycling, concrete paving, and surface mining equipment. The organization is also a leading developer of technologies that serve these in-demand industries. The company is best known for its milling and paving machines, but today, the company is a part of the larger Wirtgen Group, which is a conglomerate of construction equipment manufacturers that covers every aspect of road building from start to finish. In addition to Wirtgen, the other member companies include Vögele (road pavers, screeds, and feeders), Hamm (rollers and compactors), Kleemann (mobile crushers and screening plants), and Benninghoven (asphalt mixing plants).

Wirtgen was founded in November 1961 when 20-year-old Reinhard Wirtgen launched his one-man contracting business. Over the years, the company stayed in the family and eventually expanded from a service provider to a construction equipment manufacturer, ultimately becoming one of the world’s top manufacturers of specialized road-building machines. In 1996, the Wirtgen Group was formed when road paver manufacturer Vögele was incorporated. In 2000, Hamm, a road compactor manufacturer, joined the budding consortium. In 2006, German mobile and stationary processing plant manufacturer Kleemann was added, followed by Benninghoven, maker of asphalt mixing plants, in 2014. In 2017, Deere & Co. (makers of John Deere) purchased Wirtgen Group for $5.2 billion, stating it intends to retain each of the Wirtgen Group’s brands, as well as the existing infrastructure, management, and distribution network, for the foreseeable future.

If you’re looking for asphalt, pavers, and concrete equipment, you can find a range of new and used Wirtgen equipment for sale on MachineryTrader.com.
