Read More (About JLG G5 Telehandlers)As a manufacturer of aerial work platforms and telescopic handlers, also referred to as telescopic forklifts, JLG is a company that has built its reputation on letting you reach new heights. One of the most common machines you’ll find on construction jobsites is the JLG G5 series telehandler, a machine that has as many uses as it has attachments.
At last check, the G5s supported multiple types of buckets, carriages, augers, bale clamps, lifting hooks, work platforms, material handling arms, pipe grapples, tines, sweepers, hoppers, and booms. With such a laundry list of attachments and, therefore, capabilities, it’s no wonder the G5 is tasked with numerous functions in the construction, industrial, commercial, and mining industries, as well as in others.
The reason telehandlers are such staples of constructions is their hybrid nature. They’re compact yet powerful enough to traverse building interiors and exteriors, but they have impressive lifting capacities and maximum lifting heights, making them vital when erecting multi-story buildings. The G5s are equipped with either two- or four-wheel-drive and diesel engines.
The newest models come with Tier 4 Final engines capable of producing 74 horsepower. Older models have diesel engines capable of generating up to 100 horsepower. Maximum lift height spans between 18 feet, 4 inches to up to 19 feet. The max lift capacity for all the G5 models is between 5,000 and 5,500 pounds.
There are two models of G5 telehandlers you’ll generally find for sale on MachineryTrader.com: the G5-19A and the G5-18A. The former series refers to the older models that appear to have been discontinued by JLG, with model years between 2012 and 2007. Despite this fact, these machines are still readily available and tend to come equipped with 100 horsepower Deutz engines, auxiliary hydraulics, and dual-speed hydrostatic transmissions.
The newer G5-18A Series telehandlers are even more common, both new and used, on MachineryTrader.com. They have model years dating back to 2006. The features all of the G5-18As have in common include 18-foot maximum lift heights, auxiliary hydraulics, and Perkins or Deutz engines.
