    About Hyster

Hyster is part of Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, a top global manufacturer of forklift truck and materials handling equipment. The Hyster brand is present in 130 countries, and an estimated 825,000 Hyster-branded lift trucks were in operation globally as of late 2014.

Hyster started out making lifting machines aimed at the logging industry in the Pacific Northwest in the 1920s. After Willamette Iron & Steel and Electric Steel Foundry joined forces in 1929 to form Willamette Ersted Company, it later became the Hyster Company in 1944. The company’s first plant opened in 1946 in Danville, Illinois, and in 1966, Hyster opened a new design and development center in Portland, Oregon. After NACCO Industries purchased Hyster in 1989, it created NACCO Materials Handling Group in 1994. In 2012, NACCO Industries spun off NMHG and its parent company Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, and in 2016, NMHG became the Hyster-Yale Group.

Overall, Hyster includes 130-plus models of lift trucks available in capacities ranging from 2,000 to 105,000 pounds. Models include internal combustion pneumatic and cushion tire trucks, high-capacity forklift trucks, tire handler trucks, container handlers, 3-wheel and 4-wheel electric trucks, pallet trucks and stackers, tow tractors, reach trucks, order pickers, and very narrow aisle trucks.
