    About Snorkel

The origins of Snorkel aerial work platforms can be traced back to 1958 and the firefighting industry, when Art Moore founded Snorkel Fire Equipment Co. in St. Joseph, Missouri. The company’s first products were designed for aerial firefighting and rescue work. It wasn’t until the 1970s, when the company was sold to ATO Inc. (which later became Figgie International), that it entered the industrial and construction equipment market with its telescopic boom lifts, which Snorkel notes were the first in the industry to feature aluminum upper booms and platforms and featured state-of-the-art hydraulic and electrical systems.

The manufacturer expanded its product line through the years, adding articulated boom lifts, self-propelled scissor lifts, and ground-entry vertical lift work platforms. Other Snorkel aerial work platforms include man lifts and platform lifts, electric slab scissor lifts, rough-terrain scissor lifts, push-around mini scissor lifts, speed level lifts, electric boom lifts, trailer boom lifts, personnel lifts, material lifts, and compact rough-terrain telehandlers. Snorkel also makes EZ-Loader custom-built delivery trucks.

In 2007, the Snorkel brand was acquired by Tanfield Group, which eventually combined it with the UpRight aerial lift product line. Today, Snorkel is majority-owned by Xtreme Manufacturing and has its United States headquarters in Elwood, Kansas. Internationally, Snorkel aerial lifts are primarily sold and serviced by Ahern Canada, Ahern Australia, and Ahern Japan.
