Tokyo Japan-based Kato Works manufactures crawler cranes, mini excavators, truck cranes, hydraulic excavators, earth-boring rigs, crawler carriers, vacuum suction cleaners, street sweepers, and snow cleaners. Since its founding in 1895 as Kato Iron Works, the company has firmly established itself as an innovator in railway and construction equipment. In 1923, the company started manufacturing internal combustion engines, and for nearly a century since then, the company has continued to grow its reputation and product line, focusing mostly on large construction equipment for sale.

In 2016, Kato purchased IHI Construction Machinery Limited, which manufactures compact construction equipment, including tracked-crawler dump trucks and rubber-track cranes. Since the acquisition, Kato’s Compact Excavator Sales division has been selling mini excavators, compact track loaders, rubber-tired skid steers, and crawler carriers in North and South America.
