A feller buncher is used to fell trees and bunch them in piles in a staging area where they’re taken away. That combination can provide companies operating within logging, forestry, construction, and other industries tremendous time- and money-savings in terms of reduced man hours. Manufacturers of new and used wheel and track fell bunchers include Barko, Bell, CAT, Deere, Hydro-AX, Komatsu, Prentice, Tigercat, Timbo, Timber King, Timberjack, TimberPro, and Valmet.

Feller bunchers for sale can generally be divided into “drive-to-tree” and stationary models, with the latter using a swing boom to move trees. Feller bunchers are commonly used alongside forwarders, grapplers, and skidders. Compared to wheel models, track feller bunchers are considered slower but better suited for working on less-sturdy terrain and on slopes, such as mountainsides.

Feller bunchers are also differentiated by the type of cutting head they use, with options including shears, disc saws, and chain saws. Whatever the cutting mechanism, a feller buncher uses the cutting head to grab the tree while cutting it at the stump before placing it on the ground in a pile. Erv Drott is commonly credited with creating the first feller buncher in the late 1960s.
