    Company Evolution

Atlas Copco was founded as AB Atlas by four men, including banker A.O. Wallenberg, to produce materials used to construct Sweden’s new railways. The company eventually began manufacturing steam engines, boilers, and more advanced products before beginning production of pneumatic tools in 1901. In 1917, it merged with Diesels Motorer, a maker of marine engines and stationary diesel engines, to form Atlas Diesel, which produced diesel engines and pneumatics and compressors. In 1948, the company became Atlas Copco, a name derived from its Belgian subsidiary Compagnie Pneumatique Commerciale. The 1950s saw the company begin a strong push to expand internationally. Its first key acquisition was Belgian compressor company Arpic Engineering. Subsequent acquisitions of note included small-compressor maker Mauguière, Worthington Compressors, Chicago Pneumatic Tools, Ingersoll-Rand Drilling Solutions, and road construction equipment manufacturer Dynapac.

    Product Lineup

Atlas Copco USA sells construction equipment, industrial power tools and vacuum equipment, and compressed air and gas equipment. Specific products include dewatering pumps, piping, and vacuums, as well as mobile and portable air compressors and oil-free and oil-injected air compressors. Other products include diesel and gas generators and electric and solar light towers, plus air saws, breakers, grinders, rock drills, tampers, trucks, and wheel loaders. On MachineryTrader.com, Atlas Copco air compressors, compactors, drills (directional and vertical), light towers, power systems (towable, stationary, and portable models), and pumps are particularly popular.
