Skidders Dismantled Machines

Find Skidders For Sale

Skidders are forestry machines designed to pull felled trees from cutting areas to landings, where logs are processed, sorted, or loaded for transport. Logging contractors use these machines to move timber across rough terrain, steep slopes, and muddy forest trails.

2025 Deere 748L-II Grapple Skidder

Buyers comparing skidders for sale can choose from wheeled and tracked configurations, with grapple or cable systems suited to different harvesting methods. Machine size, traction, and load capacity affect how efficiently crews move timber while limiting ground disturbance.

Skidder Benefits

• Efficient timber extraction: Move multiple logs per trip to reduce travel time between cutting sites and landings.
• Improved traction: Heavy-duty tires, optional chains, and specialized drivetrains help maintain mobility on uneven or slippery ground.
• Operator protection: Enclosed cabs, protective guarding, and forestry-rated safety structures support work in demanding conditions.
• Flexible operation: Grapple and cable configurations accommodate different tree sizes, harvesting methods, and stand conditions.

Skidder Applications

• Commercial logging: Extract hardwood and softwood timber from managed forests throughout the United States and Canada.
• Selective harvesting: Retrieve individual trees from wooded areas where access routes and remaining timber require careful planning.
• Clear-cut operations: Transport felled timber to central landings during high-volume harvesting projects.
• Forest management: Support thinning, salvage logging, and storm-damaged timber recovery.
• Remote forestry: Move logs across rugged trails and seasonal harvesting sites where conventional hauling equipment cannot operate.

Differentiating Features

• Grapple systems: Hydraulic grapples secure logs without requiring operators to attach individual chokers.
• Cable winches: Cable skidders retrieve timber from areas where direct machine access is limited.
• Articulated steering: Many wheeled models use articulated frames for maneuvering along narrow forest trails.
• Forestry protection: Reinforced guarding, protected components, and heavy-duty undercarriages withstand debris and rough terrain.
• Drive configurations: Four-wheel drive and tracked designs provide different combinations of mobility, traction, and ground pressure.

How To Buy The Right Skidder

• Match machine size to timber: Compare horsepower, operating weight, and pulling capacity against typical log sizes and daily production goals.
• Evaluate terrain conditions: Consider tire size, ground clearance, differential locks, and track options for steep, wet, or rocky harvesting sites.
• Choose an extraction system: Grapple skidders suit crews handling grouped timber, while cable models offer flexibility when logs are scattered or difficult to reach.
• Inspect used equipment: Review engine hours, hydraulic performance, articulation joints, winch or grapple condition, and maintenance records before purchasing.
• Plan for seasonal work: Consider cab heating, cooling, cold-weather starting, and service access for year-round operations in northern climates.
