Bobcat machines are used the world over in the construction, agriculture, and mining industries, among others. Bobcat History

Before the Bobcat brand name became synonymous with the skid steer, the company started as the Melroe Manufacturing Company. E.G. Melroe and his four sons began manufacturing agricultural equipment in 1947, including the Melroe pickup, combine attachments, and the harroweeder.

In 1957, brothers Louis and Cyril Keller began assembling a compact front-end loader powered by a small engine and steered by a unique clutch mechanism. The loader worked so well that the duo produced them for other local farmers.

A year later, the Kellers partnered with the four Melroe brothers to manufacture the loader, later named the M60. Shortly after the loaders went into production, they were branded as Bobcat equipment.

In the 1960s, the company introduced the M-400, the first skid-steer loader. The skid-steer system allowed the machine to turn by skidding the wheels on one side while driving the wheels on the other. This technology provided increased maneuverability in confined spaces, revolutionizing the construction industry.

    Bobcat Innovation

The Bobcat M60 has been credited with kick-starting the compact equipment industry. But the company didn’t stop there. Bobcat continues to be at the forefront of innovation, introducing new technologies to enhance the performance and efficiency of its equipment.

Many of Bobcat’s innovations blend smart technology with a durable design to provide customers with equipment that helps accomplish more on the jobsite. Technology such as a collision warning and avoidance system assists operators with jobsite awareness by tracking nearby objects’ position, direction, and speed. The system offers audible alerts and the option to automatically stop the machine when it detects an obstacle in its path.

Bobcat began working on concept machines integrated with remote operation, enabling tasks to be completed without an operator in the machine. The RogueX remote model also features an all-electric motor, which produces zero emissions.
