Caterpillar Command For Excavating Now Supported On Six Excavators
Caterpillar has adapted its Cat Command remote control system for use with its excavator line, currently including six 22- to 44-ton (20- to 40-metric-ton) excavators. Cat Command for Excavating now lets Cat 320, 323, 326, 330, 336, and 340 excavator operators use either line-of-sight or non-line-of-sight remote operating configurations to control their machines from a safe distance. Line-of-sight kits support control from 437 yards (400 meters) away, and the Command station uses a system of cameras that allow operators to be miles away and operate an excavator from a modular, customized “virtual cab.”
Command-Ready
Dealer-installed field kits configure the aforementioned excavators for use with Cat Command and include cameras for non-line-of-sight operation through the Command station, as well as the means to stream on-site video feeds. Command allows Cat excavator features, such as Grade Assist, Swing Assist, and E-Fence, to be set, activated, and deactivated remotely. The kit also includes a ground-level switch that lets operators shift an excavator between remote or manual operation.
Safer For Operators
Cat says Command for Excavating is ideal for projects involving unstable underfoot conditions, brownfields, shore work, demolition and site decommissioning, and stevedoring. Command-enabled excavators have dig, lift, and track functions, and if wireless communication is lost, Command immediately stops all excavator movements.
Less Downtime
Command Station’s long-distance control opens up new possibilities for construction crews. Without the need to travel to the jobsite, experienced operators can take control when they are needed. The system can be configured to control up to five machines at a single or different jobsites using simulated traditional machine controls—all the way down to the joystick and foot pedal controls.
