Ditch Witch Refines Its Fluid Management Systems

Ditch Witch has added a number of improvements to its fluid management systems in an attempt to increase productivity in horizontal directional drilling applications. (Photo courtesy of Ditch Witch.)

Ditch Witch, a Perry, Oklahoma-based manufacturer of drilling equipment, mini-skid steers, and other construction equipment, recently revamped its family of fluid management systems to offer improved performance and lower total cost of ownership for organizations operating in the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) sector.

    The Key To HDD

According to Cory Maker, Ditch Witch drill pipe and fluid systems product manager, “Fluid management is a critical part of the HDD process.” To meet the needs of utilities and contractors, Ditch Witch offers four fluid management systems in its portfolio, including the FT5, FM5X, FM13X, and FM25X. These systems scale to ensure any small to midsize job can be accomplished quickly and affordably for everyone involved. The tank capacity on these models spans between 200 and 950 gallons (757 to 3,596 liters), and they can be equipped with up to 25-horsepower engines. Thanks to these improvements, the FM systems are capable of better drilling fluid flow, superior durability, and faster mixing cycles.

    Updated Inside & Out

Ditch Witch added a new internal venturi designed to improve fluid velocity and performance of the FM5X, FM13X, and FM25X units. The venturi in these machines now features a 60% larger opening, which helps with material flow and mixing. Other features include a sloping bottom in the tank to funnel fluid to the pump for proper mixing, and a durable powder-coat finish.

At the top of the product stack, Ditch Witch offers the FM25X system in a curbside or street-side configuration. This machine has refueling ports on either side for added onsite flexibility, and a hydraulic circuit that lets the system run dual tanks concurrently for superior productivity compared to single-tank systems.

If you’re in the market for new and used Ditch Witch equipment, you’ll find a wide range of models for sale on MachineryTrader.com, including Ditch Witch fluid management systems.
