With a legacy of innovation dating back to the 1940s, Vermeer is a family-owned operation that continues to manufacture reliable, versatile equipment for the agriculture, construction, infrastructure, surface mining, tree care, environmental, and utility industries.

    Vermeer History

On a small farm in Pella, Iowa, Gary Vermeer built a mechanical hoist to modify his farm wagon. Building upon the success of this tool, in 1948, Vermeer opened his one-person shop, Vermeer Manufacturing Company.

Through the mid-20th century, Vermeer continued introducing machines designed to fill gaps in the hay and forage equipment industry. Over the years, Vermeer has expanded its product lineup to include equipment for the forestry, construction, mining, and landscaping markets.

    Vermeer Forestry Equipment

Vermeer has manufactured equipment for the removal and disposal of trees for the landscaping and forestry industries since developing the modern stump grinder in 1957. Vermeer stump grinders and cutters are designed with the Vermeer cutting system and SmartSweep control system to maximize productivity.

The company’s brush chippers (aka “wood chippers”) cover a diverse range of tree removal requirements. Vermeer wood chippers have exclusive features that deliver efficiency and high performance, such as SmartFeed controls that maximize productivity by monitoring engine speed and stopping or reversing the feed to avoid stalling and blockages.

The BC1000XL Tier 4 Final towable wood chipper, for example, has a 49- or 74-horsepower (36.5- or 55-kilowatt) engine, a 25-gallon (94.5-liter) fuel tank, a rubber torsion suspension for smooth towing, and a patented bottom-feed stop bar that enables the operator to stop the feed rollers and switch between forward and reverse operations.

Designed with landscapers and tree care contractors in mind, Vermeer mini skid steers have tight turning radiuses for maneuvering around jobsites and a universal mounting plate that fits a wide variety of attachments. The Vermeer stand-on skid-steer lineup has an operating capacity ranging from 500 to 1,600 pounds (227 to 726 kg), and an elevated operator platform for an unobstructed view of equipped attachments.

    Vermeer Construction Equipment

Vermeer utility installation equipment provides versatility across multiple industries. Vermeer trenchers can be equipped with a variety of attachments and can be used to prepare the ground for the installation of underground utility lines, water pipes, electric cables, and telecommunication lines. Available in various sizes and configurations, the manufacturer’s trencher lineup has a machine to fit just about any project requirements.

Vermeer’s horizontal directional drills are built to assist in underground installations for fiber, electric, gas, and water. The company says its range of size and power offerings helps utility contractors work in tight spaces and through challenging soil types, including rocky ground.

    Vermeer Agricultural Equipment

Vermeer manufactures a wide selection of agricultural equipment, including round balers, disc mowers, mixer wagons, hay rakes, and more. These reliable tools cater to various needs, helping farmers manage hay, forage, and other crops with precision and ease. For more on Vermeer agricultural equipment, visit TractorHouse.com.
